A Hardly Spoken about Sunnah – Prayer between Maghrib and Isha

Huthayfah ibn Yaaman (may Allah be pleased with him) said:

“ I prayed Maghrib with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and when he finished he stood up and prayed. He continued to pray until Isha. Then he left. “

Collected by Ahmed in his Musnad 5/392 and Tirmithi in his Sunnan 3781.Shaykh Al-Albani graded this hadeeth as being Saheeh.

Benefits for this subject:

Shaykh Zayd ibn Muhammed Al-Madkhalee (may Allah preserve and protect him) commented on this subject in his book titled “Al-Afnanu Nadeeya “. Al-Afnanu Nadeeya is an explanation for a fiqh poem that Hafith Al-Hakeemee (may Allah have mercy on him) wrote. Hafith Al-Hakeemee acknowledged this prayer as being a sunnah.

Shaykh Zayd wrote that among the prayers which are recommended to perform, but aren’t stressed is the prayer between Maghrib and Isha. It’s recommended as it has a great reward in performing it.

There has been verses and athar which support and explain the virtue in praying at this time. One narration is reported from Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) He commented on the verse “They used to sleep but little by night [invoking their Lord (Allah) and praying, with fear and hope].”[ Adh-Dhariyat 17] Anas said : The companions used to pray between Maghrib and Isha.” [Abu Dawud 1322 Al-Iraqee graded the isnad as being authentic.]

In another narration Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) said the same thing about the verse "Their sides forsake their beds, to invoke their Lord in fear and hope, and they spend (charity in Allah's Cause) out of what We have bestowed on them " [ As-Sajdah 16]

This prayer has been established in the Sunnah. Many of the companions used to practice it. Companions like Ibn Abbaas , Ibn Mas’ud, Ibn Umar, Anas ibn Malik, and Salman (may Allah be pleased with them all).

The Tabee’oon used to practice this Sunnah as well. Tabee’oon like Al-Aswad ibn Yazeed, Abu Uthman An-Nahdee, and Sa’eed ibn Jubair.. And from the Imams who prayed during this hour was Sufyan Ath-Thawri.

These verses, their meanings, Hadeeth and acts of the Salaf encourage and guide people to offer many supererogatory prayers between Maghrib and Isha. [Al-Afnanu Nadeeya vol 2 page 187]

Guarding Asr and Fajr prayers and seeing Allah

Guarding Asr and Fajr prayers and seeing Allah - by Sheikh Bin Baz

The following is a summary translation taken from sahab.net

http://www.sahab.net/forums/showthread.php?t=361083

Question:

I want from the Noble Sheikh an answer to this question. The Messenger of Allah ‎‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ ‎‎‎‎ said, as has been narrated by the two Sheikhs, ‎Verily you shall see your Lord with your eyes as you are able to see this moon, you will have no difficulty in seeing Him; therefore if you have the ability to be diligent in the prayer before the sun rises and before it sets then do so.

Kissing The Head If They Do Not Pray

Questioner: Is it permissible to kiss the head of a parent if he (or she) only pray sometimes or do not pray at all?

Shaykh Saalih ibn Fawzaan al-Fawzaan: This is not permissible because this (kissing the head) is from (showing) love (respect), kissing him is from love (respect). So it is not permissible to kiss him. However this does not prevent you from treating him good, (meaning) treating him good with regards to worldly affairs. As for manifesting love (respect) like kissing the head or other than it, it is not permissible. Na’am.

combining prayers for the resident

source: fataawa jeddah - rulings (from) jeddah - tape no. 13
~

Question #5: "Is it allowed for the resident to combine between two prayers without (the presence of) rain?"

Shaykh al-Albaani (rahimahullaah) answers:

"Imaam Muslim brought out in his Saheeh, the hadeeth on the authority of Ibn Abbaas who said: The Messenger of Allaah (sallAllaahu alayhi wa aalihi wa sallam) combined (prayers) in Madinah between Dhuhr and Asr, and between Maghrib and Ishaa, without (being in a state of) traveling or (the presence of) rain. They said, What did he [sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam] intend by that O Abu l-Abbaas[1] {the kunya of Abdullaah bin Abbaas}? He said, He [sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam] wanted to not put his ummah into difficulties.[2]

So the apparent meaning of the hadeeth is that it is permissible to combine between two prayers in the state of residence and without the excuse of rain, because rain is an Islamically legislated excuse that allows combining between two prayers. And here Ibn Abbaas says that the Prophet (sallAllaahu ýalayhi wa aalihi wa sallam) combined as a resident and combined without the excuse of rain. And he confirmed that when the previous question was addressed to him: Why did he [sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam] do that? (Ibn Abbaas) said, He [sallAllaahu ýalayhi wa sallam] wanted to not put his ummah into difficulties. This is the hadeeth and it is in Saheeh Muslim but not al-Bukhaari. There is the like of this hadeeth in al-Bukhaari, (mentioning that) he [sallAllaahu alayhi wa sallam] combined between the prayers in Madinah as eight (rakah),[3] but there isn't this detail that Imaam Muslim mentioned or narrated from Ibn Abbaas, in which there is this important point that is the answer to this question, namely his saying (radi Allaahu anhu): He [sallAllaahu 'alayhi wa sallam] wanted to not put his ummah into difficulties.

Salaat – The Prayer

Question 1
Sheikh ‘Ubayd was asked concerning a person who is not able to attend the Friday prayers since the masjid is too far and he would not be able to make it to the masjid and back to work, can he establish the Friday prayer at his workplace with a group of fellow Muslims?
Answer:
If the situation is as is mentioned then is it allowed to do that.

Question 2
What is upon us in regards to the Amir/Leader of the Masjid? What if the Imam falls into innovation?
Answer:
It is obligatory to know that there isn’t actually something called an Amir of the Masjid or community. In a non-Muslim country, whoever builds the Masjid, they are the ones who take care of the Masjid; they appoint an Imaam, a Mu’adhin, care taker. They take care of the affairs of expenses etc.

They are only responsible for the Imaam and Muaadhin and don’t have authority over the people. If the Imaam falls into innovation, he is to be advised. You can pray in his Masjid as long as he is upon Sunnah and his innovation is not disbelief or shirk.

Delaying Isha Prayer

Question:

What is the ruling on delaying the Isha prayer until a late hour?
Answer:

It is better for the Isha prayer to be delayed to its later time. The
more it is delayed, the better, unless it be for a man because if a
man delays it, he misses the congregational prayer, and it is not
permissible for him to delay it and miss the congregational prayer. As
for the women in their houses, the more they delay the Isha prayer,
the better it is for them, but they should not delay it past midnight.

Virtues of the Prayer

by Shaykh Muhammad Saleh Al Uthaymeen

Speaking Privately with Allah The Prayer: is a link between the servant and his Lord. The Prophet (saws) said: "Indeed, when one of you prays, he speaks privately with his Lord." [Reported by Al-Bukhaaree]

And Allaah says in the qudsee hadeeth: "I have divided the prayer between Myself and My servant into two parts, and My servant will have what he asks for.

So when the servant says: ‘Al-Hamdulillaahi Rabb-il-‘Alameen’, Allaah says: ‘My servant has praised Me.’

And when he says: ‘Ar-Rahmaan-ir- Raheem’, Allaah says: ‘My servant has extolled Me.’

And when he says: ‘Maaliki-yawm- id-Deen’, Allaah says: ‘My servant has honored Me.’

And when he says: ‘Iyyaaka Na’bdu wa Iyyaaka Nasta’een’, Allaah says: ‘This is between Me and My servant and My servant will have what he asks for.’

And when he says: ‘Ihdinaas-Siraat- al-Mustaqeem. Siraat-aladheena an’amta ‘alaihim. Ghairil-Maghdoobi ‘alaihim wa lad-Daalleen’, Allaah says: ‘This is for My servant and for My servant will be what he asks for.’" [Reported by Muslim]

The Prayer: is a garden of ‘ibaadaat (acts of worship), in which every splendid type of worship is found.

There is the takbeer, by which the prayer is initiated, the standing in which the person praying recites the words of Allaah, the bowing in which he extols his Lord, the rising from the bowing position, which is filled with the praising of Allaah, the prostration in which he glorifies Allaah by His highness and in which he implores him through supplication, the sitting in which there is the tashahhud and (more) supplication and the closing with tasleem.

A Forgotten Sunnah – Between the Jumu’ah and Sunnah Prayer.

A Forgotten Sunnah – Between the Jumu’ah and Sunnah Prayer.

‘Umar ibn ‘Ata bin Abi Al-Khuwar narrated that Nafi bin Jubair sent him to As-Sa’ib bin Yazid, the maternal nephew of Namir, asking him regarding something Mu’awiyah had seen him do in the prayer. He said: “ I prayed Jum’uah with Mu’awiyah in his enclosure and when he finished, I stood up in my place and prayed. When he went inside he sent for me and said” Do not repeat what you have just done. If you pray Jum’uah don’t join it with another prayer until you speak or exit the masjid. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered us to separate between prayers. One prayer mustn’t be joined with another until you speak or exit.

Collected by Muslim [ 883]

Benefits for this subject:

· Ibn Munthir ( [318 H] may Allah have mercy on him) narrated an athar in his Awsot about this hadeeth from the acts of our Salaf. He wrote, “ Ibn Umar saw a man pray two rakah after Jum’uah and he stopped him. Ibn Umar asked the man,” Are you praying four rakah for Jum’uah!” It was Ibn Umar’s practice to pray the two sunnah prayers for Jum’uah in his home. He said, “ This was the way of our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) [ Al-Awsot vol 4 /136]

· Shaykh Al-Uthaymeen (may Allah rest him in Firdous ) said “There are numerous lessons derived from this hadeeth.” Some of those lessons are:

1. A person doesn’t join one prayer with another until he speaks between them. No Fard prayer with a Sunnah. On the other hand the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray the Nawafil prayers at night in two rakah, two rakah with no separating between them.

2. The shar’iah places importance in differentiating between Fard and Nafil. This hadeeth proves it.

The Reward for Khushoo' and Beautification of the Prayer

Author: Hussain al-Awaa'ishah
Source: As-Salaat Wa Atharuhaa (trans. Abu Iyaad 1995)

Uqbah bin Aamir (ra) said: The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) said: "There is no person who performs wudhoo, beautifying his wudhoo, then prays two rakahs concentrating therein with this heart and face except Paradise becomes obligatory for him."[1]

Zaid bin Khaalid al-Juhnee (ra) said: The Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) said: "Whoever performed wudhoo and beautified the wudhoo, then prayed two rakahs, not being forgetful in them all his previous sins will be forgiven."[2]

Humraan, the servant of Uthmaan bin Affaan (ra) said: I saw Uthmaan bin Affaan (ra) call for wudhoo (i.e. a container of water). He poured water over his hands and washed them three times. Then he put his right hand into the container and rinsed his mouth, and washed his nose by putting water in it and then blew the water out. Then he washed his face and forearms up to the elbows three times, passed his wet hands over his head and washed his feet up to the ankles three times. Then he said: I saw the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) perform wudhoo like this wudhoo of mine and then he (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) said: "If anyone performs wudhoo like this wudhoo then prays two rakahs, without conversing with his soul (i.e. not thinking of anything else) all his past sins will be forgiven."[3]

Abu Dardaa (ra) said: I heard the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) say: "Whoever performs ablution and beautifies it, then stands and prays two rakahs - or four, Sahl (a subnarrator) is not sure - beautifying them with dhikr and khushoo and then seeks forgivesness from Allaah, will be forgiven."[4]

And at the end of the hadeeth of Amr bin Asabah (ra): "... If he stands and prays, praises Allaah, glorifies Him, extolls Him with that which He is worthy of and empties his heart for Allaah the Exalted alone, he will depart from his sins in the same condition as the day his mother gave birth to him."[5]

Jaabir (ra) said: I asked the Messenger of Allaah (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) about wiping the pebbles during prayer. He said: "Only once, but if you withold from doing that it is better for you than a hundred black-eyed she-camels."[6]
