Valentines Day - An innovation, An extremism and a contradiction

Question:
In the recent times there has spread the celebrating of ‘Eid ul-Hubb (Valentine’s Day) – particularly among the female students. And it is a holiday from the holidays of the Christians, and the clothing will be completely in red garments and shoes, and they exchange red flowers with each other. We hope from your eminence an explanation of the ruling of celebrating the likes of this holiday. What is your advice to Muslims regarding the likes of these affairs, and may Allaah preserve you and protect you?

Answer:
In the Name of Allaah, the Most Merciful, the Giver of Mercy

Attending wedding parties which involve some evils

Celebrations nowadays are not free of some evils, such as songs, dancing, music, improper clothing, etc. My question is very important:
1- Is it permissible to attend and accept invitations to these occasions?
2- As 99% of these events are not free of songs, especially those that are accompanied by haraam musical instruments or indecent words, does this mean that we should have nothing to do with them and not attend any such occasions?
3- If we do not attend these parties, does that mean we are severing the ties of kinship, cutting ourselves off from people and causing enmity between us and them?
4- The scholars have stipulated that if we attend these celebrations we must denounce what goes on, but such denunciations receive no response and there is no real opportunity at such times which they claim are times of joy.

The Caller To Allaah Is Considered A Doctor

The Noble Shaykh al-Allaamah Zayd al-Madkhalee (may Allaah preserve him stated):

"Indeed the caller to Allaah is considered a doctor who specializes in treating three well known dangerous abstract sicknesses.

1. The sickness of ignorance which Allaah has warned the seal of the Messengers Muhammad (sallallaahu alayhi wa sallam) as well as His nation from who follow Him (the Prophet) in that. Allaah has said:

"Therefore do not be from the ignorant people."
(al-An'aam: 35)

Bid‘ahs introduced in ‘Eids

The first question of Fatwa no. 5738
Q 1: Is it permissible to celebrate religious ‘Eids (festivals) such as the Mawlid (the Prophet’s birthday) and the 15th night of Sha‘ban etc., according to the occasion?
A: (a) It is not permissible to celebrate innovated ‘Eids.
(b) The Sunnah approves only two ‘Eids in Islam, i.e. ‘Eid-ul-Adha (the Festival of the Sacrifice) and ‘Eid-ul-Fitr (the Festival of Breaking the Fast). During these two days, it is permissible for Muslims to rejoice and show happiness, and do the rituals that Allah (Glorified be He) has ordained during them such as Salat-ul-‘Eid (the Festival Prayer) and the like. But it is unlawful to practice any Haram (prohibited) matters.
(c) It is not permissible to celebrate the birth of the Prophet (peace be upon him) or that of any other person, because the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did not celebrate his birthday nor did he enjoin Muslims to do so. Likewise, the Sahabah (Companions of the Prophet, may Allah be pleased with them) did not celebrate the birth of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and neither did the Salaf (righteous predecessors) in the three best generations. Indeed, all goodness lies in following their way.
(d) Celebrating the 15th night of Sha‘ban is a Bid‘ah (innovation in religion) and so is the celebration of the twenty-seventh night of Rajab which some people
(Part No. 3; Page No. 83)
call the Night of Isra’ (Night Journey) and Mi‘raj (Ascension to Heaven) as mentioned in part (c). Allah is the One sought for help.
May Allah grant us success! May peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and Companions!

In The Name of Allah – The Beneficient, The Merciful

The Verdict on Hanging Quran Verses on the Wall

By the Noble Imam Muhammad Ibn Salih Al-Uthaymeen (May Allah enter him in Jannah)

Questioner: What is the verdict for hanging verses from the Quran on the wall?

The Shaykh: What is the reason for hanging these verses?

Questioner: For decoration or…!

The Shaykh: For decoration! If that’s the only reason, then Allah’s verses have been taken as an object of ridicule. How can the noble Quran that was revealed as a cure for the sick heart and admonition be placed on a wall for decoration?!

Another female questioner: Then what about hanging those seeking blessings?

The Shaykh: Has anything been reported that the Salaf used to hang the ayat seeking blessing (in that action for that place)?

Questioner: No nothing has been reported. We are successors. Whatever was sufficient for our predecessors is sufficient for us.

The Shaykh : Give me another reason.

Questioner: Can we hang it up as a reminder then?

The Shaykh: The people who will sit in that place will they remind each other of Allah by reading those verses! The answer is no, except a few, if any.

The Shaykh: Give me another reason.

Questioner: Then how about as protection from the Jinn?

Does reciting Surat al-Anbiyaa’ protect us from evil eye?

by:Shaykh Ubayd al-Jabri

Qn29: If a person recites Surat al-Anbiyaa’ in the evening or they recite it seven times, does it protect them from the evil eye?

Ans.29: It is not allowed for any Muslim to protect himself in the morning, in the evening or at the time of sleeping except with that which has been revealed by the Messenger of Allaah sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam and to this day I have never heard or learnt that Surat al-Anbiyaa’ is of the verses which have been revealed to protect oneself from the evil eye or other than this. What we have learnt from the Sunnah regarding protecting oneself with the Qur’aan is that one reads Ayat-al-Qursi [Surat-al-Baqarah:255] or one can also read the two last verses of Surat-al-Baqarah where Allaah says "the Messenger (Muhammad ) believes in what has been sent down to him from his Lord, and (so do) the believers. Each one believes in Allâh, His Angels, His Books, and His Messengers. They say, "We make no distinction between one another of His Messengers" - and they say, "We hear, and we obey. (We seek) Your Forgiveness, our Lord, and to You is the return (of all).Allâh burdens not a person beyond his scope. He gets reward for that (good) which he has earned, and he is punished for that (evil) which he has earned. "Our Lord! Punish us not if we forget or fall into error, our Lord! Lay not on us a burden like that which You did lay on those before us (Jews and Christians); our Lord! Put not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Pardon us and grant us Forgiveness. Have mercy on us. You are our Maulâ (Patron, Supporter and Protector, etc.) and give us victory over the disbelieving people."} (Al-Baqarah 2:285:286).
Also, one can recite Surat al-Ikhlas, Surat al-Falaq and Surat an-Naas (the last three surahs of the Qur’aan) as well as Surat al-Faatihah, the opening chapter of the Qur’aan. So these are the surahs from the Qur’aan which were revealed in the Sunnah to protect oneself from the evil eye. And there are many other supplications that we know from the Prophet sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam such as the saying, ‘Bismillaahi lathee laa yadhurru m’aa issmihi shay’un fil ardhi wa laa fi samaa’ wa huwa as-Sami’ul ‘Aleem’ (In the Name of Allaah with Whose name nothing in the Earth, nor in the Heavens can cause harm, and He is the Hearer, the Well-Knower.) If one says this three times in the morning, he will be protected until the evening, and if one says this three times in the evening, he will be protected until the morning. I advise the questioner and all other Muslims, male or female, to read Sahih al Kalim at-Tayyib (The Authentic of the Good Sayings) by the Imam, the Allamah, the Muhaddith of this time, Shaykh al-Albani rahimahullaah whose book is derived from the Imam al-Islaam, Shaykh Ibn Taymeeyah’s book Kalim at-Tayyib (rahimahullaah) – so you may go to either book.
